traditionally hosts an annual gay Pride Festival, due to COVID, Project Pride SRQ will take the lead with a month-long event series including “Taste of Pride” in partnership with local restaurants. The goal of Project Pride SRQ is to unite and celebrate the LGBTQ people, businesses, and organizations of the greater Sarasota area. In 2020, the organization raised over $100,000 to fund the installation of a rainbow crosswalk in downtown Sarasota, spanning five crosswalks of Second Street with Cocoanut and Pineapple avenues. Friday features a dance and performance art gathering at the Players Studio where Jess Pope and Amber McNew will perform their homage to the queer culture of 1960s Lexington, Kentucky, entitled “Pagan Babies.” Following Saturday's concert, the festival concludes Saturday evening at a post-concert afterparty at the Oasis Restaurant and Bar. The festival is produced by the Fabulous Arts Foundation and kicks off on Thursday with a “Just Say Gay & Trans” art exhibition at DreamLarge.
